The Winter, 2015, issue is a fitting 25th Anniversary Edition of GreenPrints – The Weeder’s Digest. What better publication is there for a gardener to snuggle up with against the howling winds and snowy weather?
Out with its 100th publication, GreenPrints is affectionately called “The Weeder’s Digest.” Pat Stone, editor and publisher, has filled it with 18 stories and 3 poems: including a reprint from Mark Twain and stories from Mike McGrath and Garth Nix.
GreenPrints is a 6 x 8 ¾-inch quarterly magazine noted for its entertaining garden stories and colorful front covers. Inside, pencil drawings accompany each story. Each issue is announced with a hand-drawn front cover; an artist’s depiction of the stories inside.
GreenPrints publishes the personal side of garden telling, or more correctly shows the reader a story. It is in the “Weeder’s Digest” where stories will cause you copious chuckling, infuse your curiosity, and warm your heart; all from writers who live the gardening life in the United States and around the world.
Garden Editor and Publisher Pat Stone
Pat Stone still prefers to receive submissions from writers by postal mail and, if they send him self-addressed-stamped envelopes along with their manuscripts, he will return corrections and suggestions to them in true red-pen editorial style.
Before GreenPrints, Stone was a garden editor at Mother Earth News but he broke out of the mold to stay in North Carolina. He started his own publication by asking for submissions from writers of true-life garden stories. Stone shares his own garden stories at public events using his quick wit and musical talent.
Stone makes no secret of the fact that GreenPrints Enterprises was a family run operation from the start and has remains that way. With Pat and, his wife, Becky Stone and their four children, GreenPrints has grown into a respected garden magazine.
During 2015, each issue will contain a story written by one of their children: Nate, Jesse, Sammy, and Tucker. The series is called “Growing Up with GreenPrints”and is begun with Nate’s story in the 25th Anniversary Edition.

On GreenPrints’ home page, I had a bit of fun scrolling through the selection of cover-art from past issues, (use the right arrow to click through.) Also, within the garden magazine, an order form is available for back-in-print garden books and GreenPrints note cards reprinted from past covers – all nice ideas for holiday gifts.
